Notes on your new BXC1 Collar
Quality Control for your dog is now available in the size of a matchbox. The new, more compact collar box (about 66% of the traditional AXC5) will control all but the most determined, insensitive dog, and is compatible with both AXT and BXT systems. Its smaller size will be of benefit particularly to small and medium dogs, especially those dogs with small or tapering necks. But it will be effective with all sizes of dogs, including Great Danes.
The fanfold document - 'A Practical Guide to the Function and Operation of your AXT Remote Trainer", which was supplied with your kit, is the principal instruction document on the operation of your AXT system. But its use with the new BXC1 collar differs in three significant areas, and the purpose of this bulletin is mainly to explain these differences.
1. Charge capacity on this smaller collar is less.
2. The upper limit of stimulation intensity is 370mW
3. The magnetic switch, contact points (arrows) for ON and OFF, and RESET are in
different positions.
NB When your dog is wearing this smaller, more compact collar it will be easy to forget that he is wearing it. Just as it is unwise to leave a car with its engine running, to avoid accidental activation, you are advised to remove the collar when he is not in a training session. Also remember to check regularly for signs of irritation on his neck, especially after (or even during) a long walk.
Battery capacity and charging
Remember to turn the collar OFF while charging, to ensure a full, timed charge
Use the Set Timer button on the Charging Dock for a no-fuss operation and but never subject the battery to a recharge immediately following a full, timed charge.
The fully charged high capacity NiMH (metal hydride) battery on the BXC1 collar should hold sufficient charge for about 36 hours - if left switched ON, and unused.
In the early days of training, providing the collar is switched OFF between sessions (i.e. to conserve the battery charge), it would be wise, depending on the usage, to charge every two or three days. Later, as usage gets lighter, the charge frequency should then normally reduce to a weekly top-up.
If you feel it is necessary for an intermediate charge, a rule of thumb would be to recharge the collar battery one hour after every two hours of usage on a training session.
Stimulation intensity
The stimulation strength on the BXC1 collar should enable correction for general obedience problems of all dogs, since low-end stimulation, akin to pins-and-needles - or even just the tone warning is normally all that is required.
Only when a dog is acting in an anti-social manner, such as aggression towards, or harassment of, - other animals; or he is performing other life-threatening acts; - should it be necessary to use higher levels of stimulation. This is where aversion therapy is called for, and where PAC's awesome top-end stimulation power becomes important.
The upper limit of stimulation intensity (at 370mW) on the BXC1 (compares with 500mW on the larger AXC5) will control all but the most determined, insensitive dog. Remember that although this is less than a tenth of the energy imparted by an agricultural electric fence - you have a 'captive' audience, i.e. the dog cannot get away from it!. So please think twice before using the top-end - and use it sparingly.
Turn the Collar ON or OFF
Introduce and touch the magnetic actuator arrow (at the bottom of the handset) to the ON/OFF arrow at the end of the collar. In all other respects turning ON and OFF are fully described in the Practical Guide...
Remember to wait for the 'beep' (from the collar) as confirmation that your ON or OFF operation is complete, before separating the two units.
RESET the Collar
Introduce and touch the magnetic actuator arrow (at the bottom of the handset) to the RESET arrow at the end of the collar. In all other respects RESET of the collar is fully described in the 'Practical Guide...
It is not possible to turn a collar OFF when it is part the way through a RESET operation - i.e. when it is in receptive mode, with the LED flashing fast orange. Complete the RESET operation, then turn it OFF.
